Not Blind Just Tense
I finally went to see an optometrist today about the trouble I've been having with my vision. The last few months I have been experiencing terrible migraines, night blindness, trouble focusing and occasional blurred vision. All of these things should have been checked out months ago but I was lazy and a bit scared. I always knew that my profession would eventually take a toll on my eyes; I just didn't expect to start losing my vision before 30.
Well I saw the doctor and as it turns out the good news is I am not going blind. I do however have very minor vision problems that are exacerbated by eyestrain. Yes, eye strain, which is what has been causing me all of these problems. According to the doctor my eyes are straining when I am staring at a computer screen for 8 hours and then going into spasm, hence all of the headaches and bizarre visual disturbances. The solution is a very weak prescription for a pair of glasses that I'll have to wear when working on the computer that will prevent my eyes from straining by helping them to stay relaxed.
I am very happy about this. I had already resigned myself to the fact that I would most likely have to get glasses and probably wear them all the time. So this is much better, since I only have to wear them while working at my computer. I'm happy and relieved I am not going blind, not yet anyway. Though maybe I should take it easy on the hand just in case there is some truth in THAT old wives tale.
